Raccoon City, a mid-western town in the United States, was destroyed when a substance known as the t-Virus leaked throughout the town. The game also adds new gameplay mechanics, such as stealth, parrying, and movement while aiming - which all quicken the pace and improve the experience. In adhering more to modern games, Capcom throws in some new mini-quests by way of the Merchant. The stout 'RE Engine', which debuted with RE7, truly allows this experience to shine from a presentation standpoint. The lighting and particle effects are particularly great, adding to the already thick, creepy atmosphere. ![]() The remake ditches some of the original's outdated mechanics, such as the tank controls, and gives the game a fantastic new look that darkens the tone of the original. Although the original is still enjoyable, Capcom has done such a stellar job with the remake, living up to the hype and silencing many skeptics.
